Asset Based Community Development (ABCD)
The THRIVE PEC approach is asset-based community development that draws upon existing community strengths to build stronger, more sustainable communities for the future.
Asset-Based Community Development asks these questions:
- What do you have?
- What do you love?
- What would you miss?
- What are you going to do about it?
We’re applying this approach to Prince Edward County because we know this place is bursting with strengths and opportunities – with community squarely at the centre of the conversation, we know great things can be achieved.
ABCD & Community Economies
The ABCD framework is used to great effect all around us.
From Newfoundland’s Fogo Island, where it helped build social enterprises that safeguard and celebrate the island’s unique culture. Or Calgary, where it’s part of a poverty reduction strategy and was used to create Community Hubs to bundle vital services and bring them where they’re needed most. Or to Guelph, where The Toronto Star highlighted a community-led development project that will transform the city’s under-used Farmer’s Market into a thriving centre of cultural activities.
