Thrive PEC Documentary Shorts
Prince Edward County was selected for a pilot project exploring community economies.
As part of the project, two short documentary videos were produced, showcasing Prince Edward County’s community economy, watch now on our YouTube channel.
THRIVE Prince Edward County is an outcome of participation in a 12-month national Community Economies Pilot launched by the Shorefast Foundation (led by Zita Cobb) in July 2021. Prince Edward County was selected, alongside South Island, B.C., London and Hamilton, ON., and Fogo Island, N.L.
As a model for the pilot, Fogo Island represents how small communities respond to, plan for, and build resiliency toward gentrification and change. To lead its development and implementation, Shorefast partnered with Community Foundations of Canada, the Coady Institute at St. Francis Xavier University, and the Canadian Urban Institute.
Prince Edward County is represented by The County Foundation, the Municipality and Community Futures. Shorefast is passionate about answering the question ‘how can we create an economy in service of nature and culture – in service of place?’
Part of the answer lies in grounding economies in the places where people live: local communities. When we build equitable and regenerative community economies, we’re building the foundation for a global economic order that serves the full ecosystem of life on our planet.
