Asset based discussions get underway
ABCD workshops led by Coady Institute and local organizers
On May 16 and 18, 77 PEC residents participated in Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) workshops that were led by Coady Institute and local organizers.
The Coady Institute helps to build resilient communities, strengthen inclusive economies, and promote accountable governance through the mobilization of community change leaders on a local and global level.
The ABCD course at the Coady Institute is typically two to three days of intense training – this was merely a two-hour taste. But the framework is used to great effect all around us.
From Newfoundland’s Fogo Island, where it helped build social enterprises that safeguard and celebrate the island’s unique culture. Or Calgary, where it’s part of a poverty reduction strategy and was used to create Community Hubs to bundle vital services and bring them where they’re needed most. Or to Guelph, where just this week, The Toronto Star highlighted a community-led development project that will transform the city’s under-used Farmer’s Market into a thriving centre of cultural activities.
We’re applying this approach to Prince Edward County because we know this place is bursting with strengths and opportunities – with community squarely at the centre of the conversation, we know great things can be achieved. We look forward to continuing the conversation with more people.
For now, please find below the results of the polls taken during the workshop and our ‘jam boards,’ or what we’re calling the inaugural ABCD asset maps for Prince Edward County.
