Alchemy Artists Residency

The pillars of our activities are art, food, farm, and table. Alchemy is an artist-led international residency founded in 2015 on Toronto Island to explore the common themes between artistic/creative practice and the cooking and sharing food in community settings. Since 2017, this residency has occurred in rural Prince Edward County during the Harvest Season.

Artist led initiatives to engage and encourage artists to continue work in progress or undertake new work inspired by the people and land of this dynamic rural agricultural setting. Participating artists live and visit “”The County”” from late spring through the fall harvest season to create site-specific art and explore, learn, create, and share lines of inquiry. More than 100 artists have applied to and participated in our work since 2015, and 51 of those artists have come to Prince Edward County for persistent periods of time.

WHAT WE DO

Through community engagement and commitment to a collaborative process, we collect, tell, and document multiple stories showcasing what compels people to continue to create, grow, farm, and live here. The result is ongoing positive interactions and collaborations between and among residents, farmers, makers, growers, seasonal agricultural workers, visitors, and artists.
